I started playing piano at age 4 and was taught classical piano and theory for many years (until I became a distracted teenager). At 17, I wanted to play again but in rock bands, pretending to be Rick Wakeman, Richard Wright, and John Paul Jones. I took myself off to music school and commenced an Advanced Diploma of Music Performance (Jazz) at Box Hill TAFE Music School. In 1996 I joined Melbourne indie band Cordrazine. 'Crazy' became a radio hit ending up at #14 on Triple Js Hottest 100 (1996). Our 1998 major label release 'From Here to Wherever' charted in the ARIA Top 10 and we toured around Australia and North America supporting the likes of Leonardo's Bride and Ben Folds Five. In late 1998 after Cordrazine split, I emptied rubbish bins at Melbourne Uni and baked muffins for a living before becoming a touring musician for Silverchair (tough audition process, won over, I think, by my knowledge of Led Zeppelin’s back catalogue). I went on to play hundreds of gigs internationally on tours alongside Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Hole, Blink 182 and The Offspring just to name(drop) a few, remaining as Silverchair's sole touring musician until late 2002. Personal highlights were the Reading Festival, Glastonbury, David Letterman and Rock in Rio 3 where the four of us played to over 250,000 people; an unforgettable, amazing rock experience.
Since then I have continued to tour and record whilst setting up a small digital studio producing music for short film, television and various independent and major artists/projects. I’m also a touring musician-for-hire and have worked for The Drifters, Pollyanna, Sophie Patterson, Natalie Gauci, James Reyne, Daryl Braithwaite, Ross Wilson, Mark Seymour, Stephen Cummings, Deborah Conway, Joe Camilleri, as well as many other independent artists and bands around Melbourne.
I am currently writing and producing music with Esther Hannaford (Hairspray) for the project Fanny and featuring as a member of the 'Supergroup', a backing band that performs with artists such as Daryl Braithwaite, Mark Seymour and James Reyne. I continue to write, produce and perform for various commercial and independent artists and enjoy working with emerging young artists assisting with recording, songwriting and developing new music.
Sam has been one of my favourite go-to keyboard players for some years now. His excellent skills, broad knowledge of all genres & flexibilty in the studio or on the road make him a wonderful choice for anybody looking for a first class keys player. From Synths to Hammond, the Wurley through to the Clav, he knows what he's on about. Sam's generous personality & willingness to make playing and recording a great experience are what stands.
Baz Palmer - Guitarist & Songwriter for Hunters & Collectors / Gigantically Small Records
Sam played keyboards with Silverchair from late '98 to 2002. His musical talent was undeniable and the band always enjoyed his company. He did such a good job that he even ended up with his own fanclub in Brazil!
John Watson - Silverchair's manager
Sam Holloway - a musician who still makes a flight, when the driver side door of his car is smashed off it's hinge!. Sam left the car on the side of the road, called a cab and made the flight on time and James Reyne's Max Sessions TV recording went on without a hitch. A consummate professional, friendly, easygoing & great to have on tour.

Listen to a small selection of my work.
I can provide electronic arrangements of your music, or can work with you in a studio with musicians to produce your tracks. Composing for strings, horns and choir, single instruments up to small chamber orchestras is well within my capabilities. I can also work with you to assist with writing and arranging your tracks. Have a vocal melody or a song in your head? I can help by building chord progressions, or the 'song' under your existing piece. Please contact me and we can chat further about your music or project.
I produce jingles, music for film and television, web-based audio design, backing tracks, sound-a-likes, remixing, dance/progressive/house/ambient production.
I teach piano, keyboard, and (for any instrument) : music theory, aural (interval, chord, and pitch recognition), improvisation, jazz theory, and 4-part harmony / string writing. You can come to me if you live in Melbourne or I can come to you. Alternatively, I can conduct lessons over Skype.
Remote sessions are a way of having me play on your (or the band you are recording) tracks. Simply send me a mix of your track so far and I will return tracks you can sync and edit/mix to your liking. Not much else is required, just a good description of what you want or hear. Be as specific or vague as you like. Or send me the track and let me decide. I am happy to give a free preview of what I can do on your track too.
